About Branch 005

Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 005

Liberation of the Netherlands

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 005 – Liberation of the Netherlands is the only Royal Canadian Legion Branch in the Netherlands. Together with four branches in Germany, Branch 005 forms part of RCL Zone Europe. Our members come from all parts of the Netherlands and share a common connection with Canada and the Canadian people.

While many of our members have a military background, this is not a requirement to become a member. What unites us is a shared respect for history, remembrance, and the strong bond between Canada and the Netherlands. Each member has a special connection with Canada in one way or another, and all members value and support commemorations and remembrance ceremonies.

Remembrance and Community

Our branch is dedicated not only to remembrance but also to education, community involvement, and maintaining the historical connection between Canada and the Netherlands. We support ceremonies, memorial events, and educational initiatives that help keep the history of liberation alive for future generations. We believe it is our responsibility to continue telling the story of liberation and to ensure that the sacrifices made by Canadian and Allied soldiers are never forgotten.

Our Purpose

The commemoration and remembrance of our Canadian liberators, as well as all Allied forces, is a major binding factor in the Netherlands. This is especially meaningful because many of the fallen soldiers who helped liberate the Netherlands are buried here.Branch 005 actively participates in remembrance and commemoration ceremonies throughout the country. By taking part with the RCL Colour Party and/or an official RCL delegation, we contribute to honoring and preserving the memory of those who gave their lives for our freedom.
